BLEPHAROPLASTY

Features & Benefits

Excessive Skin and Wrinkles

Individuals with significant skin laxity and wrinkling around the eyelids may consider blepharoplasty. This is particularly common among older adults, as the natural aging process can cause the skin to lose elasticity and become prone to sagging. Blepharoplasty can remove excess skin and tighten the eyelids, resulting in a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

Impaired Vision

In certain cases, excessive skin on the upper eyelids can obstruct the visual field and impair peripheral vision. This can be a functional concern and may necessitate blepharoplasty to improve vision and enhance overall quality of life. If the sagging or drooping of the upper eyelids interferes with everyday activities, such as driving or reading, a blepharoplasty procedure may be recommended.

Baggy or Puffy Eyelids

Some people develop puffiness or bags beneath their eyes due to fat deposits or fluid accumulation. These conditions can make the eyes appear tired or aged. Blepharoplasty can involve the removal or repositioning of fat deposits and the tightening of underlying muscles to address these issues, providing a more refreshed and alert look.

Hereditary Factors

Genetics can play a significant role in the development of eyelid-related concerns. If an individual has a family history of droopy or puffy eyelids, they may be more prone to experiencing similar issues. In such cases, blepharoplasty can be an effective solution to correct inherited eyelid characteristics and achieve a more harmonious facial appearance.

Who is Blepharoplasty for?

Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic procedure that is typically performed to address aesthetic concerns or functional issues related to the eyelids. It may be suitable for individuals who meet the following criteria:

Excess skin or sagging eyelids

As individuals age, the skin around the eyelids can become loose and saggy, resulting in a tired or aged appearance. Blepharoplasty can remove excess skin and fat, tighten the underlying muscles, and restore a more youthful and refreshed appearance to the eyelids.

Puffy or baggy eyelids

Some individuals may have puffiness or bags under their eyes, which can make them appear tired or unrested. Blepharoplasty can remove or reposition the fatty deposits responsible for this puffiness, resulting in a smoother and more rejuvenated appearance.

Impaired vision due to drooping eyelids

In some cases, excess skin on the upper eyelids can droop to the extent that it obstructs the field of vision. This can impair daily activities and even pose a safety risk. Blepharoplasty can address this functional issue by removing the excess skin, improving vision, and enhancing the overall quality of life.

Eyelid asymmetry or ptosis

Blepharoplasty can also be performed to correct eyelid asymmetry or ptosis, which refers to drooping of the upper eyelid caused by weakened or stretched muscles. By tightening and repositioning the muscles, the procedure can restore symmetry and improve eyelid function.

Blepharoplasty, commonly known as eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic procedure that aims to improve the appearance of the eyelids by removing excess skin, fat, and muscle from the upper and/or lower eyelids.

Good candidates for blepharoplasty are individuals who have droopy or sagging eyelids, puffiness, or bags under their eyes, which make them appear tired or aged. Candidates should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the outcome.

During the surgery, the surgeon makes incisions along the natural lines of the eyelids, and then removes or repositions the excess tissue. The incisions are typically well-hidden in the natural creases of the eyelids. The procedure can be done under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the patient’s preference and the extent of the surgery.

Patients usually experience mild discomfort and swelling after the surgery, but any pain can be managed with prescribed medications. Most individuals report a relatively comfortable recovery process.

Recovery times can vary depending on individual healing rates and the extent of the procedure. Generally, patients can expect bruising and swelling to subside within a week or two. Strenuous activities and exercise should be avoided for a few weeks.

Like any surgical procedure, blepharoplasty carries some risks, including infection, bleeding, scarring, dry eyes, and changes in sensation around the eyes. However, serious complications are rare when the procedure is performed by a qualified and experienced surgeon.

Skilled surgeons aim to make incisions in the natural creases of the eyelids to minimize visible scarring. Over time, the scars usually become less noticeable and blend in with the eyelid contours.

In some cases, excessive skin or sagging eyelids can obstruct vision. Blepharoplasty can address these issues and potentially improve vision if they are due to the eyelid’s physical condition.

I had an upper blepharoplasty with Dr. Kim back in January of 2021 and I love my results. It took me a very long time to find the right doctor for my eyelids and after lots of research and consultations, Dr. Kim was my first choice. You can tell he is a perfectionist as he really took his time during consultation and before surgery to measure and make sure I was 100% on board. I came in wanting unfitting big eyelids and he showed me 3 different choices/sizes to work with to achieve natural and realistic goals that is fitting to my face. I was so scared that I would struggle with scarring but he did the job so seamlessly, I can't even see it. The stitching was P E R F E C T!! Let me also say, the follow up is amazing. Anytime I needed a check up or held any concerns, he always tended to my needs. The staff is so sweet too and take COVID-19 measures very seriously to create a safe environment for everyone. I 100% recommend CK Plastic Surgery and Dr. Kim as he will give his all to bring you your dream results. 10 months after upper eyelid surgery.
